Compression is not learned by only trail and error, it is learned by a knowledge of ratios, thresholds, output controls. Many producers an bedroom producers are trying hard to not only learn compression but learning it at the mercy of their own songs or their own ignorance as to what contorl on a compressor does what to the vocal.
